8/27/96 - 23:34:05 for immediate release: * justin's seeks another sweet spot * or * host an edgy beast of a web site for free * -> contact justin hall, justin@justin.org after a good time generally freeloading off stellar san francisco bandwidth, justin's links from the underground is seeking another sweet spot online. for darn near four years, justin's links from the underground has provided, free of charge, the best source of information anywhere on justin hall. over 2000 web page pieces have ruined his wrists, jeopardized his personal relationships, and garnered national press attention concerned with his consumption of bodily fluids. during that time, hall has grown fat off the LANs of the swarthmore college computer society, hot/wired magazine, c:net, and for the longest time, the cyborganic corpunity. the latter provided the situation for hall to grow to where he is today: "thank you" hall sez. he adds, "i like amy." but he is a realist: "maybe nothing will change, i can stay where i am. switching web servers is a hassle, so maybe i'll just choose the old hassle instead of a new one. but maybe i'll have to leave, so i send out a press release asking the web to provide for me." the burden: * a web site of over 100 megabytes; over 2000 html pieces * server side includes and custom perl5 cgi scripts * over 500kbytes/6k users traffic per day * an author who likes to telnet in from around the world and use emacs to edit html directly * a number of domains including "justin.org" and "links.net" but not including "fuck.com" the benefits: * undying gratitude * irregular payment * strange service requests * risk of indictment * a link from the bottom of justin's front page nearly all of the time. (there are extensive other benefits, more intangible: association with one of the most sites on the web and the resulting recognition of providing a public service, people leaving justin's web page for his service provider's; but to really explain the benefits here would require more egoism than is appropriate in a press release.) currently still a college student, hall intends to graduate before the mellenium. after that, crazy things could happen: "i have lots of ideas for new projects. i want to be a student for the rest of my life: study things and share them online. i think it will be a big moneymaker." there may be some money in hosting hall, but since the majority of his site income to date has resulted from donations, justin would appreciate a service provider "not hung up on resources." it should be a mutual admiration relationship; "my dream is to have a big computer with pfat bandwidth, for me to use for free, with saavy, friendly tech support weenies up at all hours, who will share with me their weird tastes in music. on that server, i'll plan to build my online textbooks, new bibles, absolute truth, and hope to publish the heck out of my funny and cool friends." "this is a great opportunity to help a nice guy with a big personal web site," sez hall, posing as an important person other than himself. offers, opportunities and queries can be addressed towards biz@justin.org for your furthur information online: justin's links from the underground - http://www.links.net/ previous hosters - http://www.links.net/thanks.html fuck.com - http://www.links.net/webpub/fuck.com.html honduras - http://www.links.net/vita/trip/hondo/ learn how to make your own web pages! - http://www.links.net/webpub/
