I listened to a ton of the Police. I thought secret journey was a most profoundly lyrical song.

They always had a funk, a little Stewart Copeland keepin' african time under Sting doin' some french thing or a mild yell. Very approachable boppy toe-tapping digestible rock, with light punk seasoning.

Most bands get mellower with time. The Police was no exception. The second side of Synchronicity was a very soft rock album, even if it did deal with morbid themes.

Sting's independent ventures, the dream of the blue turtles was alright, but he slipped further and further over into mellow middle age angst obscurity. He wasn't talkin' to me no more.
