This rant is the best stuff you've written in recent memory. Get pissed off more often!

No clock huh? I had the same problem in London and when we called to the front desk and asked if they could supply one, the answer was a clean, crisp no. Apparently, being acclimated to the time is an American thang!

No, no, you use your Nokia, of COURSE! Under your pillow, grab it every hour when suitably anxious about time and press the buttons to make those digits gleam green. It's even got an alarm. What on earth would you want a non-personal timekeeping device for?

Jill is right. Although I agree you on the low level of the service/acessory in that 4starry I'm not surprised about lack of clocks in Hotels around here.

I've used mobile's alarm since I got my first, about 8 years ago. TV's which I have seen in hotels here are equipped/embedded with timers which turn on TV automatically at given time. I have used those, because I like to get the news fresh in the morning before going to breakfast. :)

In case you Really have to keep your telly on whole night just because of alarm it's more that irritating. ((haven't been in that hotel))

ps. I burnt my whole stomach and chest on stove as a kid. I was fighting about some minor thing in sauna with my cousin. Then he accidentally pushed me so that fell on stove. I think I ran my 60m record to lake after that :)

Was this the one in the lower level of the Helsinki airport?

I stayed there this summer! One night was enough in that weird hotel cavern.

Also, you're retarded about the clock thing. On the TV menu I selected my wakeup call time, turned the TV off and went to sleep. lol

Sorry to say but you're retarded about the clock thing. On the TV menu I selected my wakeup call time, turned the TV off and went to sleep. lol

I,m in the hotel as I type.
No Clock is driving my wife crazy. You wake up every half hour with one eye on the TV wondering what the time is. If its dark outside - it could be 3am or 7am. Actually, the noise from the trams does confirm it is 7am.
My poxy Motorola doesnt have an alarm - maybe I should have kept the Nokia!
Try the swimming pool on the 9th floor. 14 degrees C is still cold even when its -8 outside.

About your complaint about Scandic Continental
Hotel in Finland (and probably by implication
other Finnish hotels).

Clocks in hotel rooms is an antiquated feature. As mobile phones
(with clocks) are now ubiquituous, and since many people wear
multi-time zone watches these days, I guess people
are expected to use their own "clocks".

I agree about the overly optimistc star rating though.
There are smaller but more luxurious hotels in Finland,
like Kamp Hotel in Helsinki, that are double the price
of Scandic. But there are not so many such hotels.
Scandic, Radisson, etc. all look the same and just serve
as the business traveller's overnighter. I think the reason
is there is no tourism culture in Finland, like there is
in the UK or France. Hence drab generic hotels!
