Have you read the Tipping Point (look it up in Amazon/Google). Basically the book would have Joi pegged as a Connector because of the sheer amount of ppl who he knows and connect other ppl with. its a fascinating book, and although not written with social networks in mind - it ends up describing much of the phenomenon.
