Howard dresses up. Even alone in his garden, his clothes tend towards the bright, wildly patterned, and colorful. Sometimes psychedelic, always exciting. It's funny because in public he's a fairly retiring person, generally preferring to talk with friends as opposed to acting dramatic with strangers. So his clothes make him look like a much louder person than he is. It's a balance.
I once heard him say "There's no such thing as gratuitously psychedelic" his wardrobe certainly reflects that.
He's been kind over the years to give me his cast off clothes. Sometimes my friends look at things I'm wearing and they say, "That looks like something Howard would wear." And sometimes they're right.
