I first wrote about Akira in 1991.

I loved that film when I first saw it. Sprawling cyberpunk. Bombed out NeoTokyo. Psychic teens run amok. I showed the film to many folks - high school friends, high school film society, whoever I could ahold of. I eventually loaned my copy and lost it. When that film comes out on DVD, I'll be early in line to get a copy.

Also my first exposure to Gamelan music - I loved the Geinoh Yamashirogumi soundtrack.
